About converting HEIC to WebP
HEIC keeps iPhone photos small, but most websites and Windows apps cannot display it. WebP offers a similar goal of small files with good quality, and unlike HEIC it is supported by every modern browser. Converting HEIC to WebP is a good choice when you want to publish iPhone photos on a website or blog without inflating their size.
The resulting WebP is usually a little larger than the HEIC original but clearly smaller than a JPG of similar quality. If the photo needs to be opened in older software or sent to a print service, JPG is the more compatible choice. Conversion happens locally in your browser and strips EXIF data such as GPS location.
