About the AVIF format
AVIF is an image format based on the AV1 video codec, released by the Alliance for Open Media in 2019. At the same visual quality it is often smaller than both JPG and WebP, and it also supports transparency and high bit depth, so more and more websites and phones are adopting it.
Support for AVIF still varies across operating systems, photo apps, and older browsers. Shrinkary decodes AVIF with a built-in WebAssembly decoder instead of relying on your browser, so files open consistently. Images are displayed as standard 8-bit color.
