Why convert AVIF to PNG
AVIF supports transparency, but many tools cannot read it. PNG is the most widely supported format that also keeps an alpha channel, so converting AVIF to PNG is the best way to reuse transparent graphics, stickers, or product cutouts in design and office software.
PNG is lossless, so the converted file preserves exactly what the AVIF contained, without adding new compression artifacts. The trade-off is size: PNG files, especially of photos, are often many times larger than AVIF. For photos without transparency, converting to JPG gives a much smaller and equally compatible file.
