About HEIC and converting to JPG
HEIC (HEIF) is the default photo format on iPhone and iPad since iOS 11. It is based on HEVC video compression and stores photos at about half the size of an equivalent JPG. However, Windows, many websites, and older Android apps cannot open HEIC files without extra codecs, which is why photos sent from an iPhone sometimes cannot be viewed.
Converting to JPG makes the photo readable on virtually any device, website, or print service. The result is usually larger than the HEIC original, which is expected. Shrinkary decodes HEIC directly in your browser, so you do not need to install anything, and location and device metadata are removed during conversion.
