Compress JPEG XL (JXL)

Compress JPEG XL images in your browser with Shrinkary: adjust quality, reduce file size with minimal quality loss. No upload, batch, free. Great for archives.

PNG output stays lossless at quality 100; lower values make PNG files smaller with slight quality loss.

How it works

  1. 1. Choose images

Drag and drop images onto the page, or click to select files from your device.

  2. 2. Processed locally

Compression runs entirely in your browser — images are never uploaded to a server.

  3. 3. Download the result

Download each file as soon as it's ready, or grab everything at once as a ZIP.

How JPEG XL compression works

JPEG XL (JXL) is a next-generation image format designed as a successor to JPG. It supports both lossy and lossless compression, transparency, HDR, and very large images, and at similar quality its lossy files are typically much smaller than JPG.

Browser support is still uneven: Safari 17 and later can display JXL, but support in other browsers is still being rolled out and may not be enabled by default. JXL is therefore best suited to archiving, photography workflows, and apps that support it, rather than images you publish directly on a website. If you need maximum compatibility, compress to JPG or WebP instead.
